Call for Sacrificial Offering

Call for Sacrificial Offering

By Presiding Bishop W. Kevin Romer

Volume 20, Number 1, Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr 2019 Issue No. 77

Last April, during General Conference, we set a goal to open the church’s Visitors Center to the public in June of 2018. We have not met that goal due to various expenses that were not planned, including $35,000 for roof repairs to the headquarters building and an increase in property and casualty insurance costs of over $40,000.

As we attempt to be fiscally responsible, it is our belief that to draw down our total cash reserves to complete the Visitors Center is not wise at this time. We have, however, been directed by revelation to spare no expense in our media outreach as this will become the face of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is time that we start telling our own story of God’s unique call and mission of this church.

The Presidency, along with the Order of Bishops, would like to call for a special sacrificial offering to complete the church’s Visitors Center. Our goal is to raise $60,000 to complete the addition of a parking lot on the north side of the headquarters building. This will allow visitors off street parking, making their visit a better experience. The parking also allows for handicap access to the building for office staff, membership, and visitors.

We would like to raise the funds by April 1, 2019. We would then look to begin work installing the parking lot during the months of April and May, allowing for a grand opening in June of 2019.

We do not take lightly a call for a sacrificial offering over concerns about how such an offering could impact the other income areas of the church as well as the impact such a sacrificial offering has on the membership and their ability to be responsible stewards of God’s blessings. As is the practice of the church, any funds received beyond the goal would then become part of the storehouse account of the general church.
