The Remnant Record 2018 – Volume 1
Camp Courageous Vacation Church School (VCS)2018 was held at the Gathering Place on July 16th–19th. Eighty-three youth in the center area, Restoration groups, and out-of-town friends gathered for four days to learn about Lehi’s vision and how it applies to them today. Our wonderful staff comprised of 43 youth and adult helpers made the VCS program successful. Each day started with the youth walking in, holding on to the iron rod in the Worship Center for a morning meeting led by High Priest Austin Purvis discussing the Book of Mormon.
The youth learned camp songs, made crafts, ate snacks, played fun games, and enjoyed classtime activities. After the activities, we closed the day with an indoor campfire complete with songs and a skit. The character building dramas, written by Ardyce Nordeen and Cindy Patience, told of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s obedience, J.J. Cornish’s faith, Joseph Smith, Jr.’s courage, and the origin of the hymn, “The Old, Old, Path.” Thursday night’s program closed the VCS week as the youth met Jesus (Monte Nordeen) at the end of the iron rod, and they delighted us with music and scripture songs from the week.
