Junior High Camp
Jul/Aug/Sep 2016
The 2016 Junior High Camp kicked off with a theme for the week of “The Good News!” We had seventeen campers (twelve girls and five boys) and nineteen staff. Seventy Darrin and Melody Moore were the camp directors. High Priest Corwyn Mercer was a counselor and the KP director. Elder Dustin Westbay was a counselor and taught the “Scripture Fun Class” in the evenings. Deacon David Patrick was a counselor and taught archery. Dani Patrick was a counselor and taught arts and crafts. Christy Williams was our camp nurse. Jared Hoover was a counselor, taught survival skills, and led everyone in Yoga each morning. Diana Galbraith was our head cook with Sariah Hoover and cook-in-training Molly Moore assisting. Sara Reynolds was a counselor and led campfires. Bishop Ben Galbraith was our camp pastor. High Priest Elbert Rogers, along with his wife Coral, led our daily theme class. Sister Rogers was also a counselor. Our CIT’s included Sarah Bass, Keilah Zahner, Aubri McEver, and Alex Tibbitts.
The camp motto was, “Live Pure, Speak the Truth, Right Wrongs, and Follow the One True King.” Daily themes and scriptures included: Sunday – “I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel of Christ,” Romans 1:16; Monday – “Hear,” Romans 10:17; Tuesday – “Believe,” Mosiah 2:13; Wednesday – “Faith,” Matthew 21:17-20; Thursday – “Repent,” Luke 13:3; Friday – “Baptism,” 2 Nephi 13:7-9; and Saturday – “Confess,” Matthew 10:28-29.
Many activities were included during the week. Sunday included Church services at the Blackgum Branch, water games, relay races, and a Scripture scavenger hunt. Monday featured survival, archery, arts and crafts, and team building breakout sessions. Campers enjoyed a Water Fun Splash Pad in Gore, Oklahoma, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, campers had a blast at the newly remodeled Tenkiller State Park pool. On Friday evening we had a Ma and Pa Variety Show where there was 100% participation. To end every night, we had a campfire where the Spirit was definitely present. God was truly with all of us this year, and we were blessed with spending the entire week out of the world and able to focus on “The Good News” of the gospel.
