Vacation Church School – 2015

VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL

July/August/September 2015

In July, many of our youth from the Remnant Church, as well as friends and family from other denominations, attended Vacation Church School held at the Gathering Place. This year’s theme was, “The Armor of God.” Our songs, lessons, and fun activities were based on the theme in Ephesians 6 as well as the following scripture in Micah 6:8: “What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.”

The youth were enthusiastic about learning what it means to put on the whole armor of God. In class, they learned through the stories of Samuel, Paul and Ananias, Enoch, and Jesus on how to be prepared to be in the army of God. The lessons from these biblical stories taught about building good character, obedience, faith, integrity, compassion for others, servitude, forgiveness, and humility. The youth learned what these traits, and each piece of armor, have in common. Through the testimony of Deacon David Tims and his recent motorcycle accident, the youth saw how important it is to have a relationship with God in addition to wearing physical “armor” in life. The Uncle Charlie and Sally skits, written by Ardyce Nordeen, gave us a glimpse of how the old Bible stories still apply in our situations today at school, church, home, and in this world.

The perfect accompaniment to our lessons was the making of our “armor” in crafts class, playing fun games in recreation, and singing songs about God’s promises.

During this week, each of the staff members and youth learned, most importantly, how the Lord loves each one of us and desires for us to live in harmony in His army. Many thanks to all of those who dedicated their time and efforts to Vacation Church School and our youth.
